Yellowjacket debuts in new 'Ant-Man' trailer

I will give this to Marvel. Every time a new film comes out in their MCU, I have to do research on their characters. I wish I could say that I had memorized every nuance of every comic book growing up, but I was obsessed with hockey, not comics as a kid.

Some characters I know better than others. I didn't have to do much research on Avengers per se, but the last couple of ones have forced me to dig into some great comics to help get familiar with them before the films come out. This is especially true for Ant-Man.

Although, I tend to see it as an opportunity and not as a crutch. Since I'm coming to them with virginal eyes, I'm not tainted by the years of comics canon. Case in point, I'm not as taken aback seeing someone other than Hank Pym as Yellowjacket as some other people are. In fact, going in with less baggage allows me to sit back and take everything as it comes and I'm convinced that this approach led me to have a great time watching Guardians of the Galaxy.

I think this trailer signals a change in the marketing for Ant-Man. It's like Marvel has flipped a switch and things have gotten serious for their latest comic hero and it shows in the details of this trailer. For instance, I'm sure that Universal is pretty happy that they are getting some great free advertising for their character Thomas and my kids were blown away by his inclusion.

Ant-Man hits theaters on July 17.
