Columbia Pictures scored a proverbial touchdown today with the acquisition of the movie rights to the bestselling book The Da Vinci Code. The book debuted at #1 on the New York Times Bestseller list and has built a cult-like audience in the 14 weeks since its release.

The book is part of a series of books by Dan Brown that follow the exploits of Robert Langdon, a professor of symbology at Harvard University. As part of the deal, Columbia has aquired the rights to all Robert Langdon's adventures including the first book, entitled Angels And Demons, and an upcoming book about the secrets of the Masonic Order.
