Beside their nuptial promises, newlywed society sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey (Robert Montgomery) and crime novelist Harriet Vale (Constance Cummings) make another vow: no more crime in their lives. Fat chance for that when the lovebirds and faithful butler Bunter (Seymour Hicks) arrive at the country cottage they've just purchased to find the overly attentive villagers disrupting their solitude -- and the previous owner's body in the basement. Filmed in England, this jolly good puzzler marked the second screen appearance of Dorothy L. Sayers' dilettante detective and was based on a 1936 play co-authored by Sayers that she later reworked into the novel Busman's Honeymoon. In true whodunit tradition, the dastardly deceased antagonized several locals (including Robert Newton and Googie Withers) who fall under suspicion, and the investigating inspector (Leslie Banks) is just one step behind the wit and wisdom of Wimsey and his bride. Haunted Honeymoon is the perfect union of holy matrimony and hearty mystery.
