'Snow White' Sets DVD Sales Record

Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs took on The Godfather and made their customers an offer that they couldn't refuse. The first high profile DVD battle in a fourth quarter filled with heavy DVD hitters went to Disney.

Disney, on the strength of an aggressive in-store pre-sell campaign, posted astronomical first day DVD sales. Snow White found her way into over 1 million homes in one day. When you consider that Gladiator holds the overall DVD sales record with 5.5 million and counting, you really get an appreciation for this amazing sales effort.

The real test comes next week though, when George Lucas debuts The Phantom Menace on DVD. It will mark the first time that any Star Wars movie will be available on DVD.
