Singer And Actress Aaliyah Killed In Plane Crash

R&B singer and aspiring actress Aaliyah was killed on Saturday when the plane in which she was travelling crashed at a small airport in the Bahamas. Eight others were killed in the crash of the small Cesna that was leaving the Bahamas en route for Miami.

Aaliyah, whose full name is Aaliyah Houghton, was 22 years old. She had recently released her third album, a self-titled effort. Aaliyah had sold a million copies of her first record and even received a Grammy nomination.

The multi-talented star had also a rising film career ahead of her. She had appeared in the martial arts movie Romeo Must Die opposite Jet Li. She is also to be featured in the film adaptation of an Anne Rice novel, The Queen Of The Damned. That movie set for release next year. Aaliyah was destined for superstardom; she had just recently signed on to appear in the sequels for sci-fi hit The Matrix.
