'Iron Man 2' arrives on DVD/Blu-ray on September 28

It looks like late September just added a bit of sizzle to the calendar with today's announcement from Paramount that Iron Man 2 will release on DVD and Blu-ray on September 28. The $300 million plus box office hit is looking to get a jump start on the highly competitive holiday fourth quarter buying season.

It's certainly a strategy that Paramount has milked before as it released the original Iron Man on DVD and Blu-ray during that same week in 2008. All that decision did was elevate Iron Man to the second best selling DVD of 2008 behind only the juggernaut that was/is The Dark Knight.

Iron Man 2 will be available in three different configurations. There will be a standard DVD, a two disc Special Edition DVD and a three disc Blu-ray and DVD combo package. The Blu-ray package comes with SRP of $39.99. While the DVDs officially don't have an SRP from Paramount, expect the standard edition to retail for about $20 and the special edition to retail around $25.

Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack

The Iron Man 2 Blu-ray is presented in 1080p high definition with English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, French 5.1 Dolby Digital, Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital and Brazilian Portuguese 5.1 Dolby Digital and English, English SDH, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese subtitles. The DVD is presented in widescreen enhanced for 16:9 TVs with Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround, French 5.1 Surround and Spanish 5.1 Surround and English, French and Spanish subtitles. The disc breakdown is as follows:

Disc 1 (Blu-ray):

  • Feature film with optional commentary by Jon Favreau (HD)
  • S.H.I.E.L.D. Data Vault (HD)— Extend your knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with high-level clearance into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s digital data vault.
