Academy Award-winning writer and director Sofia Coppola is back with Somewhere. Destined to be Oscar-bait, the film stars Stephen Dorff plays a spoiled actor who receives a surprise visit from his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning).

Focus Features has just dropped the trailer and poster. Here is the official synopsis and trailer:

“Somewhere” is a witty, moving, and empathetic look into the orbit of actor Johnny Marco (played by Stephen Dorff). You have probably seen him in the tabloids; Johnny is living at the legendary Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood. He has a Ferrari to drive around in, and a constant stream of girls and pills to stay in with. Comfortably numbed, Johnny drifts along. Then, his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) from his failed marriage arrives unexpectedly at the Chateau. Their encounters encourage Johnny to face up to where he is in life and confront the question that we all must: which path in life will you take.

My first thought upon watching this trailer was "When did Elle Fanning grow up?" Last thing I knew she was tiny little Phoebe in the underrated film Phoebe In Wonderland. Now she looks nearly as mature as older sis Dakota.

Along with Dorff and Fanning, the film also features a surprise co-star in Chris Pontius. He's the wild and bare-chested dude best known for MTV's Wildboyz and Jackass. It'll be interesting to see how he does in this seemingly quiet movie.

Coppola hopes to get back on track with this tender little film. Her follow-up to Oscar-winning Lost in Translation, 2006's Marie Antoinette, didn't go over well with audiences or critics.

Somewhere arrives in theaters on Dec. 22.
