I will admit that I'm a pretty big Saw fan and that I actually look forward to getting out on opening weekend each year to see the new installment. Well, this year through circumstances out of my control, I didn't get out to see it.

And judging from this weekend's box office results, I'm not the only one from the Saw faithful that didn't pack theaters as in past years. In fact, the $14.8 million estimate is the lowest opening weekend of any previous Saw movie.

While some are citing apathy at an aging franchise or the economy or the rise in ticket prices, the most telling sign is the direct competition it received from the little horror film that could, Paranormal Activity. Despite playing in over a thousand few theaters than Saw VI, Paranormal Activity bumped its weekend numbers up $2 million or so to over $22 for the weekend frame.

The crew over at FunnyorDie.com didn't waste any time coming up with a parody of the two competing horror movies. As seen below, "Paranormal Saw" combines the two movies and even features an ending that mirrors the butt whipping that the supernatural upstart put on the long in the tooth horror franchise.

What did you think of the mash-up? Is this the beginning of the end for the Saw franchise?
