Sure, the whole high-def war has been over for a few months now, but today marked the first day in a brave new Blu-ray world. Universal announced that on August 26, 2008, it will release its first day-and-date Blu-ray and DVD release with Heroes: Season 2.

Universal is the last major studio to bring day-and-date Blu-ray discs to market. Earlier, it was announced that Universal would release its first ever Blu-ray offerings on July 22nd with The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King.

Other day-and-date Blu-ray offerings expected from Universal before the end of the year include The Incredible Hulk, Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Mamma Mia! amongst others.

Universal also plans to tap into its vast catalog by releasing hits such as Knocked Up, American Gangster and Miami Vice on Blu-ray for the first time.

I wonder how long before the Bourne trilogy turns up on Blu-ray?
