Variety confirmed today what has been floating around the Internet for the better part of a month, George Miller will be directing a live-action Justice League of America.

You might remember George Miller as director of the Mad Max movies or more recently for his work on Happy Feet. Regardless, the geek community rejoices at this announcement as his involvement is the best news that we've heard on this project in a long time.

Variety also confirmed that Warner Bros. is fast-tracking the film so that filming will be complete before the potential massive strike early next year. The studio is penciling this film in as a tent-pole release for the Summer 2009.

The next step is casting this project that is supposed to include the comic book characters Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Aquaman. It's believed that current Superman (Brandon Routh) and Batman (Christian Bale) are NOT going to be involved in this project, so that leaves casting wide open.

I will beg my compatriot to do a full casting piece tomorrow, but off the top of my head I think Tom Welling (he was hosed in the casting for Superman Returns in my opinion) as Superman and Adrian Grenier (a little sister studio magic with HBO's Entourage who has already "played" Aquaman) as Aquaman are natural choices.

What do you think? Tell us who you would cast in the main roles.
