Film star Freddie Prinze Jr. is moving to the small screen. He will star in his very own sitcom for ABC.

Prinze will portray a Puerto Rican who is raised in a household of females -- a situation based on his own life. Freddie was raised by his mother in New Mexico after his father, actor and comedian Freddie Sr., committed suicide in 1977. The late Prinze starred on the sitcom "Chico and the Man" for NBC from 1974 to 1977.

Not only is he the star, but he is also donning a number of other hats for this project. "I told them I won't do TV unless I'm the executive producer, unless I'm the creator, unless I'm a writer on the show," Prinze told the Associated Press. It was not announced but it's assumed this new project will be on the network's Fall 2005 line-up.

Prinze added that he wants to spend more time in L.A., which added to his desire to work on a TV series close to home. And who can blame him -- he is married to Sarah Michelle Gellar.
