Matt Damon To Wear Batman's Tights?

I guess the only question that remains is whether Matt prefers royal blue or midnight blue. It was announced this week that Warner plans to ready Batman Vs. Superman for a Summer 2004 release with acclaimed director Wolfgang Petersen (The Perfect Storm, Air Force One) on board.

And apparently, Petersen has Damon in mind for one of the lead roles. "Matt's an interesting action man and a hell of an actor."

This announcement opens up so many potential cans of worms. First, as a result of the friendship that emerged from filming The Perfect Storm, we could see Petersen directing George Clooney as the caped crusader once more, even though Clooney reportedly swore off the cape forever following 1997's Batman & Robin.

Second, it could create an additional rivalry between best buds Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Affleck is set to portray a Superhero when he breathes life into Daredevil next February. As you might recall, Affleck and Damon garnered some notoriety earlier this year when their Action flicks The Sum Of All Fears and The Bourne Identity went head-to-head at the box office. I can just see the parody now in Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back 2.

And finally, we might run into a problem of having a glut of Superhero movies at the box office. Besides Daredevil, The Hulk, X-Men 2, Spider-Man 2, Catwoman, Ghost Rider, and Wonder Woman are all slated to hit theaters in the next two years. And that doesn't even take into account the previously announced new Superman movie and two Batman movies (Batman: Year One and Batman: Beyond) scheduled to hit in the next two years.

As Robin would say, "Holy crowded box office, Batman."
