Simon Pegg and Nick Frost to help 'Paul' phone home?

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright have been three legs of a very successful entertainment stool that has given the world Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead and Spaced. While Edgar went off to direct Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, you just knew that Simon and Nick wouldn't sit around and do nothing.

They previously announced a new road comedy together called Paul and today we learn some greater details on the flick from SlashFilm.

It what can only be described as a mash-up of Fanboys and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Simon and Nick play two Brit geeks who travel to mecca, aka the San Diego Comic Con International and on the way home decide to take a detour to Area 51 where they have a close encounter with an alien named Paul who enlists their help in getting home.

Perhaps space truly is the final frontier for Pegg who will also be star traveling on a little ship called The Enterprise in 2009. Paul will begin filming early next year and should see the light of screen late 2009 or early 2010.
