Comedies dominate MTV Movie Awards nominations

Teen comedy Mean Girls and Will Ferrell starrer Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy paced the nominations for the 2005 MTV Movie Awards with four each. Life continues to imitate art as Mean Girls stars (and enemies in the film) Lindsay Lohan (2 nominations) and Rachel McAdams (4 nominations) battle for the most buckets of golden popcorn.

While the Oscars traditionally recognize dramatic (read boring) movies, the MTV Movie Awards elicit a fun atmosphere. Off the wall categories such as Best Kiss, Best Villain and Best Fight return, while new categories like Best Frightened Performance and Best Video Game Based on a Movie continue in the same spirit.

The ceremony airs on June 9th at 8:30 PM on MTV. Fever Pitch funny man Jimmy Fallon returns as host.
